Exaggeration

Stand up comedians often go too far, say the extreme version of the message to get a laugh. People laugh because it is so extreme, but also because it is sort of true. This is a gentle way to give a message because  it provides a surprise relief.  _ eg. If he had one though in his brain it would be lonely.eg. You are full of beans.

Sometimes the surprise is the silliness of the situation itself. But the listener says, yes, but that is partly true though.

a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid

They lay  heavy burdens on men’s shoulders but themselves will not move them with one finger

if thy right hand offend thee cut it off and cast it from thee

It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city

depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire

Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment
