Conclusion

It is humbling to study what Jesus said in this way. I am a firm believer that people have no competence or right to change the gospel. I am only looking at what it says.

However, looking at it, I see some amazing things about this kind, wise person who came into our midst and tried to advise us.

He spoke as one of the people, in down to earth terms, with mundane and concrete examples.

He was fascinating to listen to, a great observer, a surprisingly open person to people of any social status, even the rejected. He was an enigma with what seemed to be no personal ego and yet fully confident in something. That something was God.

He spoke in the words we had invented, in our language, and with the logic we could understand. He knew what we considered proof, what we considered witness that a person would believe.  He also knew however that some of our logic was limited. He gently led listeners to a broader view, and it surprised some, mesmerized some, and scared some.

It is no surprise that his words have been studied for two millenia already.  A whole essay could be written on any one of his quotes, a whole sermon on the meaning of one of his statements.

This means that study of Jesus continues to give readers new insights. The speech has not changed as we re-examine it.  We have. We find as our lives progress, that his words resonate  personally and in new ways.  That also is the brilliance of the speaker.
